'Exodus' is part of 'The Book' series, a work dedicated to cites from 'The
Bible' that are not compatible with my believes and opinions and that I consider responsible for human and animal discrimination (women particularly).
In video we can see sentences from
Pentateuch made of glass, five of them, that speak about sex slaves and ways in which a person (male) should behave with them.
Behind these glass sentences photographs of my face could be seen, distorted by closness of a photo lens, but also by refractions that are happening inside the letters. In that way I am trying to present confusion and diversity of female identities in current times that I'm constantly confronting with.
By face expressions I'm trying to evoke some grimaces that I subcontiously do in stress situations.
Glass letters are transparent but still visible enough to subtley change images and decorate them. Thus I feel about cultural heritage of monotheistic religions (
Christianity), that only seemengly are not allpresent in people's lives. I choose glass becouse it presents constant threat of falling and breaking down, thus making much deadlier weapon than mere sentences are.
By the projection, on a postament, should stand a book which content is made of frames from the video, and that book should evoke the looks of 'The Bible'. On it's first page english transcription of latin verses from the video will be written, thus explaining the meaning of them.
Exodus 21.7.-11.
7: And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.
8: If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her.
9: And if he have betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.
10: If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.
11: And if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out free without money.
